Laguna de Valfría is a mountain retreat with a soul of its own.

A former invernal (winter livestock shelter) with more than 150 years of history, carefully restored to preserve its character while offering a different way of experiencing nature.

Set within a private estate of more than 25,000 m², in the heart of the Saja-Besaya Natural Reserve, the house opens onto a landscape of forests, meadows and mountains that feels almost untouched. Here, the light shifts throughout the day, silence takes on a different meaning and the rhythm of life is shaped by the seasons.

The architecture preserves the memory of the original building: stone walls, noble timber, traditional proportions and elements linked to its farming past now coexist with a contemporary restoration that is calm, understated and respectful. Nearly 300 m² designed to enjoy space, stillness and sweeping views across the valley.

The accommodation is arranged over two floors. On the lower level, there is a spacious living room and a kitchen area with an island, ideal for cooking and spending time together. There is also a guest toilet without a shower. Upstairs, the accommodation features four bedrooms, three bathrooms with showers, and a landing area with a small library.

Its connection with the surrounding landscape can be felt in every detail. Water comes from a natural spring, while electricity is generated through a solar self-consumption system. Outside, a circular lagoon fed by the same spring blends naturally into the estate and, during the summer months, offers a simple and authentic way to enjoy the water.

Laguna de Valfría is a place to slow down. To enjoy unhurried breakfasts, walk through the forest, read by the fire, practise yoga outdoors or simply watch the evening settle over the mountains. Deer, wild boar and grazing livestock are part of the landscape and, at the beginning of autumn, the deer rut transforms the valley into one of Cantabria’s most remarkable natural spectacles.

It is a truly unique place surrounded by nature, yet still within easy reach of some of the region’s most special destinations: Bárcena Mayor, Comillas and its beaches, the El Soplao Caves, and the mountains of Alto Campoo.
